Edition:
Inside Indigo - First Edition
Inside Indigo - Prototype Edition
Inside Indigo - French Edition

A handbook for dyers. Learn how to extract indigo pigment or build a vat in light of the inner workings of the molecule. Indigo chemistry made easy, down to the molecular level.

Follow step-by-step instructions with a running “science behind” column as your guide. Revisit your experience or discover new techniques. For advanced dyers and beginners alike, with concise, easy-to-understand explanations.

Use this illustrated handbook as a compass to help you navigate observational cues with confidence, whether to successfully extract indigo pigment or to recognize “what your vat is telling you.”

With more than 80 graphic plates, this is an ideal tool for visual learners who find it helpful to keep a reference open on their studio counter. Key concepts are available at a glance, enhancing the workflow.

And for those keen to dive deeper into the chemistry of indigo and its relationship to fiber, these detailed drawings and diagrams present a one-of-a-kind exploration of how things work at a molecular level.

Prototype Edition

From the publisher:

We are currently sold out of the first edition of inside indigo, but we do have the prototype available, and are offering it at a discounted rate. It is very similar to the first edition, but with a few minor differences:

  • Some pages have been cut a little short, which has cropped a few title pages

  • The colours are a little less vibrant than the 1st and 2nd edition, but only noticeably if the books are put side by side with other editions

  • A few minor typos here and there

In today's world, it's more important than ever to give books a second life, even those that aren't perfect. By offering these prototype editions, we hope to reduce waste and curb the cycle of overproduction, both of which are pressing environmental concerns.
