Soaps & Scouring

An integral first step in the process of dyeing natural yarns and fabrics. Scoured items dye more evenly, the dye penetrates better, and dyed colours are more lightfast and washfast.

Use soda ash and synthrapol for scouring cellulose fibres (cotton, linen, hemp...) and orvus paste for protein fibres (silk, wool...). Both processes require heat.
