Bengal Jamdani - Handspun Silk Shawl - Copper Paisley

$265.00

This truly exquisite bengal shawl is a testament to masterful hand work. It features handspun silk and the technique of Jamdani, whereby the artist uses supplementary weft threads to create intricate designs as they weave.  The subtle sparkle in this particular design comes from the use of metallic thread and tiny sequins. The sequins have been crocheted into a special handmade thread before weaving.

This cloth is made entirely by hand, no power looms or industrial machinery is used. Handweave is so much more than simply beautiful cloth, it is an idea of cultural self-sufficiency with deep roots in the Indian identity.
