Dabu is a mud-resist block print technique that has been made famous in Rajasthan, India. Artisans create a mud mixture known as Dabu — it must be the right consistency to be applied with a wooden block, be taken up by the fabric, and to remain intact through the immersion dyebath. The mud acts to resist the dye.
Thedistinctive patterns known as “dabu” prints are the result of a wooden block being placed many times by an artisan’s hand - slight variations give the cloth life and are to be celebrated.
