Dabu is a mud-resist block print technique that has been made famous in Rajasthan, India.
Artisans create a mud mixture known as Dabu — it must be the right consistency to be applied with a wooden block, be taken up by the fabric, and to remain intact through the immersion dyebath. The mud acts to resist the dye.
The character of dabu and the wooden blocks used to apply it work together to create the distinctive patterns known as “dabu” prints.
