Yoruba Indigo: Adire and Tie Dye
Instructor: Gasali Adeyemo
$325 (Includes $75 lab fee)

October 6, 7, 8 (Mon, Tue, Wed) 10am - 4pm
Maiwa East: 1310 Odlum Drive - Class Limit 14

Join Gasali Adeyemo, a traditional Yoruba artisan from Nigeria, as he takes students through the techniques of adire and tie dye. Each process is unique and has its own traditional designs and meanings in the Yoruba culture. Adire is the process of creating designs using cassava paste (also known as yucca) as a resist. It is applied with a small broom and a chicken feather. Students will learn how to prepare the paste and how to make designs either by stencil or by hand. The cloth will be dyed using natural indigo in the traditional Yoruba way. Gasali will also teach the process of tie dye using raffia to bind the fabric and then dyeing the fabric with the traditional indigo blue. Students will learn the techniques as well as the history and the culture behind the processes.

Gasali Adeyemo will also be teaching the Yoruba Batik and Tie Dye
