This workshop will help students understand why a piece is “right” and what to do when it is not. Good intuition can simply be internalized theory - we “know” and no longer have to think about the principles of design. Through numerous quick design exercises, discussions, references, and play, students will enhance their awareness and critical skills. They will use a variety of media on paper and textiles. Processes will be both permanent and water-soluble and include: charcoal, caran d’ache, mono-print, stitching, screen printing, and collage. Expect to emerge excited, knowledgeable, full of new ideas, and with an enlarged mark-making vocabulary. Students will complete several take-home samples which can be used to plan a larger work. Kerr joins us from New Jersey, USA. A dynamic teacher, she has produced a number of innovative workshops. She has recently released Deconstructed Screen Printing on DVD. Kerr Grabowski Kerr Grabowski’s twenty-year history as a fibre artist has been marked by her constant experimentation with and innovative approaches to dyeing and screening processes. Kerr successfully integrates her love of colour, mark-making, and spontaneity with the challenge of creating whimsically elegant contemporary hand-painted and -screened silk fabrics and wearables. Formerly Artist in Residence at Peters Valley Craft Center in New Jersey, USA, Kerr now maintains a studio in Sussex, New Jersey.
