Deconstructed Screen Printing
Instructor: Kerr Grabowski
$350 (Includes $85 lab fee)

October 27, 28, 29 (Mon, Tue, Wed) 10am - 4pm
Maiwa East: 1310 Odlum drive - Class Limit 14

Deconstructed screen printing is a technique developed to allow the screen to be used in a more spontaneous and painterly manner. This workshop explores that facet of screen printing on fabric - the unpredictable, the spontaneous, the intuitive.

Employing the silk screen as a painting and mono-printing tool, we will print over textured surfaces, allow the dye to dry in the screen, alter the screen further, and print. The image softens and gradually disappears as more prints are made. Using natural fabrics, deconstructed screen printing, fibre-reactive dyes, discharge, resist, and direct painting onto the screen and fabric, participants will create textiles full of depth and personal imagery.

The resulting fabric may be used as an end in itself or a point of departure for further embellishment.

This is a great workshop for quilters who love texture, and for collage artists and surface designers looking for ways to increase their mark-making vocabulary.

Kerr joins us from New Jersey, USA. She is a dynamic teacher who has produced a number of innovative workshops. She has recently released Deconstructed Screen Printing on DVD.

No screen printing experience required - students will not be using the screen in the typical manner.

Kerr Grabowski is also teaching the Textile Design workshop.
